On the mechanism and stoichiometry of the oxidation of hydrazine by illuminated chloroplasts.
Hydrazine can support a rapid oxygen uptake in illuminated chloroplasts. The oxygen uptake rate is inhibited by 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1, 1-dimethylurea but is only slightly increased by added methyl viologen, and little H(2)O(2) is produced. The pH optimum for hydrazine-dependent oxygen uptake is much higher than that of the Hill reaction. Addition of Mn (II) increases the rate of oxygen uptak...

متن کاملPhotooxidation by Photosystem II of Tris . washed Chloroplasts ' Takashi
Irradiation of tris-washed chloroplasts with moderate intensities of red light caused a partial bleaching of chloroplast pigments and an inhibition of the hydroquinonesupported photoreduction of NADP. The presence of an electron donor for photosystem 2 (PS2) during the irradiation prevented the bleaching and inhibition. It is concluded that the strong oxidant produced by PS2 accumulates in tris...

متن کاملReduction of Trimethylene Dipyridyl with Illuminated Chloroplasts.
Chloroplasts photochemically reduce 1,1'-trimethylene-2,2'-dipyridylium dibromide and concurrently form adenosine triphosphate. Reduced trimethylene dipyridyl in darkness will reduce spinach ferredoxin, Clostridium pasteurianum ferredoxin, nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide phosphate, and other viologen-type dyes.
